Biography
Matthew LeRoy Hintz, DO, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic
sports medicine. With advanced expertise in arthroscopic surgery and sports-related injuries, Dr.
Hintz is dedicated to helping patients of all ages recover from injury, restore function, and return
to the activities they enjoy. His patient-centered approach emphasizes individualized treatment
plans designed to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Dr. Hintz earned his Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science from Johns Hopkins University before
completing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Medical Education at Lake Erie
College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). He went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery
internship and residency at LECOM Health before pursuing fellowship training in Orthopaedic
Sports Medicine through MedStar Health in Baltimore, where he further refined his expertise in
treating athletic injuries and complex shoulder and knee conditions.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hintz has cared for athletes at every level—from youth and high
school sports to collegiate, professional, and elite competition. His extensive team physician
experience includes serving athletes with the Baltimore Ravens, York Revolution professional
baseball team, Erie BayHawks basketball, Erie Otters hockey, multiple NCAA Division I
programs, and Shenandoah University. This breadth of experience has provided him with a
comprehensive understanding of sports injuries, injury prevention, and return-to-play strategies
for athletes of all skill levels.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Hintz is actively involved in education and leadership. He
previously served as Chairman of the Orthopaedic Surgery Division at Winchester Medical
Center and has dedicated years to teaching orthopaedic residents and sports medicine fellows.
He is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and maintains active membership in several leading
national orthopaedic organizations.

scientific presentations focused on sports medicine, knee injuries, and orthopaedic surgical
techniques. His combination of advanced fellowship training, extensive experience caring for
