National donor dayIn celebration of National Donor Day, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, urge you to “celebrate your love of life” this Valentine’s Day and register to become an organ donor.

Organ and tissue donation and transplantation provide a second chance at life for thousands of people each year. One organ donor can save up to eight lives. You have the opportunity to be one of the individuals who make these miracles happen.

According to the HRSA, each day an average of 79 people receive organ transplants, while 18 people will die each day waiting for an organ due to a shortage of donations. Currently, 112,971 people are waiting for an organ- here’s how you can help:

  • Sign up as an organ and tissue donor in your state’s donor registry- sign up today
  • Designate your decision of your driver’s license
  • Tell your family about your donation decision
  • Include donation in your advance directives, will and living will
