Summertime Health Tips

by kbrill June 21, 2010
Technically, today is the first day of summer! The United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere observe June 21st as the Summer Solstice. This means the Sun is the farthest north, which really means it makes it really, really hot outside, as we have all experienced these past few weeks.

The Orthopaedic Institute would like to provide you with some Summertime Health Tips to ensure you and your families have an active, fun, safe summer!

June is Men’s Health Month!

by kbrill June 11, 2010
Men’s Health Week is June 14-20th

The Orthopaedic Institute considers preventative healthcare extremely important for all potential health related problems. Being proactive about your health by understanding and taking care of your body can help save your life! Identifying a health issue early and treating it immediately can eliminate long term medical problems and even death. It can also save you money in the long run on hefty medical expenses when a health issue or disease is in its advanced stages.

The Orthopaedic Institute’s physicians and staff encourage men, women, and children to receive regular check ups and keep track of their health issues. Last month we focused on women’s health and encouraged women to participate in the Women’s Challenge as well as schedule a check up to monitor their health. http://www.womenshealth.gov.

This month it’s the men’s turn! This initiative gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals like you an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. Did you know women are 100% more likely to visit the doctor for annual examinations and preventative services than men?1 Not to sound depressing, but this could be why men, on average, die 6 years earlier than women.

So if you are a male or if you know a male please encourage them to get a check up! What better time than now…

June 14-20th is Men’s Health Week. The purpose of Men's Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. What can you do besides scheduling a check up?
1. Educate yourself! www.menshealthlibrary.com
2. Stay Active and Exercise! At your check up, ask your physician to recommend a good exercise program.
3. Eat Healthy!
