Two of The Orthopaedic Institute’s physician’s have officially set off on the Climb for Cancer Foundation’s Kilimanjaro Expedition- a 19,340-foot climb of the highest mountain in Africa. Edward M. Jaffe, M.D., board certified orthopaedic surgeon and James W. Berk, M.D., board certified sports medicine physician, began the fundraising climb on Sunday. The physicians should summit around sunrise Friday, with the climb set to end on Saturday, July 30.

The minimum fundraising goal for each team member is $10,000. Together, both physicians have raised nearly $60,000 through personalized Climb for Cancer websites, emails and letters to friends and other individual endeavors.

TOI employees contributed a total of $2,625 though three “jeans day” fundraisers from May through July alone.

All proceeds will directly benefit local cancer patients and their families in our community.
