The Orthopaedic Institute (TOI) employees surpassed their 2009 record of $680, donating $795 for Lee National Denim Day to support the fight against breast cancer. Almost half of TOI’s 251 employees chose to donate, many contributing more than the suggested $5. The funds raised will benefit research, test and treatment development, and support centers for cancer patients and their families.

Lee National Denim Day is one of the largest single-day fundraisers for breast cancer. One in every eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Because of TOI’s involvement, and thousands of other participants, Denim Day 2010 is projecting between $4 million and $5 million in total donations, bringing the 15-year total to nearly $85 million.

Today, TOI’s offices and clinics are filled with pink shirts, ties, shoes and a lot of denim. TOI employees are usually seen in navy and khaki uniforms or blue scrubs, but today, the change in attire is naturally increasing awareness of the fight against breast cancer throughout North Florida.
